UCF Downs Women's Basketball in A-Sun Opener, 55-47

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Senior forward Kat Sungy (Arvada, Colo.) had nine points and 13 rebounds as the Jacksonville University women's basketball team fell to UCF, 55-47, in the Atlantic Sun Conference opener Thursday night at Swisher Gymnasium. Ali Roberts led the Golden Knights with 12 points and added four rebounds.

Junior guard Lexie Richards (Mercer Island, Wash.) hit three three-pointers in the first half, but was held scoreless in the second to finish with nine points, while senior center Veronique McMillian (Los Angeles, Calif.) returned from a knee injury and scored nine points off the bench for the Dolphins (2-9, 0-1 A-Sun).

Erin Paige added 11 points and nine boards for the Golden Knights (5-7, 1-0), while Takira Allen scored 10 and pulled down five rebounds. UCF was held to 34 percent shooting for the game, but forced JU into 28 turnovers.

JU shot 43 percent from the field and were outrebounded, 37-34, including 20-11 on the offensive glass.

JU continues A-Sun play when they host Florida Atlantic on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Swisher Gymnasium. Sungy needs 18 more points to become the first Dolphin in history to hit 1,000 for their career.
