Jan. 18, 2003

DELAND, Fla. - Jacksonville University senior forward Kat Sungy (Arvada, Colo.) poured in a season-high 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while junior guard Lexie Richards (Mercer Island, Wash.) added 15 points by hitting 5-of-7 three-pointers, including three in the final 1:05 of the game, but the Dolphins dropped a 66-57 decision to Stetson in Atlantic Sun Conference play Saturday at the Edmunds Center.

Sophomore center Kara Donnell (Mattoon, Ill.) had 10 points and 12 rebounds for her third double-double of the season, and the Dolphins (2-12, 0-3 A-Sun) outrebounded the Hatters (2-12, 1-2), 39-36.

Kristy Brown had a game-high 22 points and 14 rebounds to lead Stetson, while Michelle Garcia added 13 points and Ja'net Smith had 12. Joslyn Giles also had a double-double with 10 points and 11 boards.

Neither team shot the ball well as the Dolphins shot 39 percent from the field and the Hatters shot 40 percent, but JU turned the ball over 28 times. JU hit 5-of-11 from behind the arc and 12-of-16 from the free-throw line, while Stetson hit only 1-of-8 from long range and 13-of-14 from the line.

Stetson took a 35-24 lead into the break after holding JU scoreless for a five-minute stretch late in the first half. The Hatters led by as many as 20 on two occasions, the last at 61-41 with 5:23 remaining in the game, but Richards heated up and led the Dolphins on a 14-5 run to end the game.

The Dolphins return to action when they hit the road against Mercer on Thursday at 6 p.m. in Macon, Ga., followed by Troy State on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Troy, Ala.
