JU Women Fall to Jacksonville State, 64-51

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. - Jacksonville University sophomore center Kara Donnell (Mattoon, Ill.) scored a season-high 20 points, pulled down seven rebounds and had two blocked shots, but Jacksonville State downed the Dolphins, 64-51, in Atlantic Sun Conference action Thursday night at Pete Mathews Coliseum.
Junior guard Lexie Richards (Mercer Island, Wash.) hit four threes and finished with 14 points, while freshman guard Tara Eddy (Vienna, Va.) added 10 points, four rebounds and three assists off the bench. Senior forward Kat Sungy (Arvada, Colo.) was held to a career-low two points, but pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, her 13th double-digit effort of the season.
Shanika Freeman led JSU (12-9, 6-4 A-Sun) with 19 points to go with six rebounds. Cobie Carlisle and Heathar Shepard added eight each as nine Gamecocks scored at least three points.
JU (5-16, 3-7) shot only 33 percent from the field and 5-of-21 from behind the arc, while JSU shot 41 percent from the field and 5-of-18 from long range. The Gamecocks outrebounded the Dolphins, 40-37, and forced JU into 28 turnovers.
The Dolphins return to action when they travel to Atlanta to face Georgia State on Saturday at 2 p.m. at GSU Sports Arena.
