Dec. 7, 2003

Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - JU junior guard Rebecca Montz (Erath, La.) scored a season-high 23 points, while junior forward Yolisha Jackson (Clarksville, Tenn.) double-doubled with 17 points and a game-high 12 rebounds in the Dolphins' 66-56 win over Eastern Illinois Sunday afternoon at Swisher Gymnasium. JU evens its record to 2-2 thanks to a second half defensive stand that held the Panthers (2-3) without a field goal through the final 6:25, while shooting a season-high 73 percent (22-30) from the free throw line.

Senior guard Katie McDonald (Chandler, Ariz.) chipped in eight points and recorded seven rebounds, while freshman center Meghan Ostendorf (Mattoon, Ill.) had seven points and five rebounds.

With JU leading 53-49 with 6:25 remaining, Pam O'Connor, who led the Panthers with 15 points, scored what would prove to be EIU's last field goal of the game. JU went on a 13-5 run down the stretch, giving up only five points off free throws, while hitting 7-of-10 from the charity stripe themselves. Montz was perfect down the stretch, hitting 4-of-4 free throws in the final 24 seconds.

Though the Dolphins were outshot 36 percent to 27 percent in the first half, Jackson was able to tie the game at 28-28 with 24 seconds remaining with two of her 11 first half points. McDonald also contributed to a gutsy first half performance, recording six rebounds in the first five minutes of play.

JU hosts Samford on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 4:00 p.m. at Swisher Gymnasium.
