UCF Controls the Second Half in a 67-46 Win Over JU in Women's Basketball

Jacksonville, Fla. - UCF (4-6, 3-0 A-Sun) shot 50 percent (28-for-56) from the field to JU's (2-8, 0-3 A-Sun) 27 percent (17-for-62), outscoring the Dolphins 40-23 in the second half and handing JU its sixth defeat in a row in a 67-46 loss Monday evening in Swisher Gymnasium.

JU junior forward Yolisha Jackson (Clarksville, Tenn.) had a team-high 14 points and six rebounds, while senior guard Katie McDonald (Chandler, Ariz.) scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds. UCF center Takira Allen led all scorers with 18 points.

JU closed to within one when junior guard Rebecca Montz (Erath, La.) hit her first three-pointer of the night to make it 27-26 at the 19:13 mark of the second half. UCF inched ahead by three but McDonald hit an acrobatic reverse lay-up at 17:24 to cut the lead to 30-29. The Golden Knights replied when Ali Roberts converted on a three-point play to spark a 14-2 run with, putting UCF ahead 46-31 with 11:18 remaining. McDonald and freshman forward Meagan Wallen (Leesburg, Ind.) combined for five points to cut the lead to 46-36, but McDonald checked out of the game with her fourth foul at 10:07 and UCF ignited on a big run, outscoring JU 11-0 through four minutes to lead 57-36 at the 6:04 mark.

The Golden Knights led 14-9 in the first half before junior forward Lauren Woodman (Port Moody, B.C.) pulled down an offensive rebound and set up senior guard Lexie Richards' (Mercer Island, Wash.) three-pointer to cut the deficit to 14-12. UCF built a 27-19 lead at the 3:41 mark until freshman center Talia Johnson (Sardis, Ga.) blocked a shot on the defensive end and scored on the ensuing fast break to kickstart a 4-0 run to end the half.

JU plays six of the next eight games on the road, starting with Belmont on Thursday, Jan. 8 at 8 p.m., then taking on Lipscomb on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 2 p.m.
