Women's Basketball Loses Nailbiter to Belmont, 78-74

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Junior forward Yolisha Jackson (Clarksville, Tenn.) led three Dolphins in double-digits with a game-high 19 points and eight rebounds, while freshman center Meghan Ostendorf (Marietta, Ga.) had 16 points but second-place Belmont overcame a late deficit to down the Dolphins, 78-76 Saturday at Swisher Gymnaisum.
JU falls to 3-22 and 1-17 in the conference, while Belmont moves into a tie for second-place in the A-Sun with a 15-11 overall record and a 13-6 conference mark.
The Dolphins led by three, 72-69, with 2:35 remaining in the game when Belmont countered with a 7-0 run to pull ahead, 76-72 with 25 seconds on the clock. Senior guard Katie McDonald (Chandler, Ariz.) scored with 12 seconds remaining to make it 77-74, but Belmont hit both free throws down the stretch for the win.
The Dolphins hit their first four shots of the first half and led by as many as nine points, 26-17 at the 8:17 mark, but Belmont took a 36-37 lead at 3:07 and maintained the margin to the intermission.
JU travels to UCF on Thursday, March 4 at 7 p.m. to take on the Golden Knights.
