JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The JU men's and women's basketball teams hit the road for the final time in the regular season with a lot on the line.
Both teams enter the final weekend trailing by one game for first place in the Atlantic Sun Conference and will need some help to secure either program's first regular season conference title.
The trip begins with a doubleheader at Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday followed by a doubleheader at Stetson to end the regular season.
The men's team has won three in a row entering Thursday's game to keep pace with league-leading Belmont. JU needs one win to secure the No. 2 seed in the A-Sun Tournament and a first round date on Wednesday.
"While we're in contention for the title, we can't worry about everything else going on," said JU men's coach Cliff Warren. "We've been stressing in practice that we have to continue to get better for us to reach our goals."
Despite being upset by Kennesaw State on Saturday, the women's team is in the hunt but faces a stiff test against FGCU as the two teams battle for postseason positioning.
The Dolphins have clinched the No. 2 seed in next week's A-Sun Tournament, but need a win to give their postseason hopes a chance should they not win the automatic bid to the NCAAs.
"We're looking to get back to the things that made us successful and do it consistently," said JU women's coach Jill Dunn. "We have to play consistently over 40 minutes and we haven't done that much lately. There is a lot on the line in this game, so it is important for us to come out focused because they will be aiming for us."
Tipoff for the doubleheader on Thursday is set for 5 p.m. Both games will be broadcast on ASun.TV, with the men's game also being broadcast on 1010XL.
