Women’s basketball releases 2008-09 schedule
The Jacksonville women's basketball team will have 15 home games, including four contests at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena, and a 20-game Atlantic Sun Conference slate as the Dolphins unveil their 2008-09 schedule.

The Dolphins home schedule features five non-conference home games, with the home opener coming against Florida International on Nov. 20. JU’s first game Downtown will be against A-Sun rival Belmont on Dec. 4, to open conference play.

Other highlights of the schedule include a trip to face SEC foe, Florida (Nov. 17) and a spot in the South Padre Island Shootout on Dec. 19-20 with Virginia Tech, SMU and IUPUI in South Padre Island, Texas. The Dolphins will also host NCAA participant and Big 12 champion Kansas State (Nov. 28) and travel to WNIT participant South Carolina (Dec. 30).

"This is by far the toughest schedule that we have played since I have been at JU,” said JU head coach Jill Dunn. “We are playing five teams that competed in post season last year so it will be a good test for us to gauge where we are as a program."

Other non-conference home games at Swisher include George Mason (Nov. 25) and UCF (Dec. 15). The non-conference road schedule also features a trip to Coastal Carolina (Nov. 22).

"Our goal is to be playing in the NCAA Tournament in March so we feel the best way to prepare us to reach that goal is to compete against great competition in our non-conference games,” Dunn said. “Hopefully, this will put us in a position to win the A-Sun conference and tournament."

After JU opens A-Sun play against Belmont in the Arena, the Dolphins will end the weekend against Lipscomb (Dec. 6).

The rest of the Dolphins’ home schedule will feature three more contests in the Arena –Campbell (Feb. 12), archrival North Florida (Feb. 16) and Florida Gulf Coast (Feb. 21). Games against Mercer (Jan. 8), Kennesaw State (Jan. 10), East Tennessee State (Jan. 29), USC Upstate (Jan. 31) and Stetson (Feb. 19) will be played in Swisher Gymnasium.

The Dolphins’ conference road schedule will include trips to East Tennessee State (Jan. 3), USC Upstate (Jan. 5), North Florida (Jan. 15), Campbell (Jan. 17), Florida Gulf Coast (Jan. 22), Stetson (Jan. 24), Kennesaw State (Feb. 5), Mercer (Feb. 7), Lipscomb (Feb. 26), Belmont (Feb. 28).
