After four years as an assistant coach with the JU women’s basketball program, helping the Dolphins to back-to-back 20-win seasons, Andrea Williams will take her act to the Big East as she accepts an assistant coaching position at USF.

Williams, who has 13 years of collegiate coaching experience at all levels of college basketball, will join head coach Jose Fernandez who has led the Bulls to six consecutive postseason appearances.

“I really enjoyed my experience at JU and getting the opportunity to work with Jill Dunn the past four seasons,” said Williams. “It was very special to be a part of the building process that put the Dolphins at the top of the Atlantic Sun Conference and start receiving notice at the national level. Although I won’t be able to see our senior class finish their JU careers, I will be keeping a close eye as they work towards their goal of a conference title. The JU athletics department is heading in a great direction and I’m proud I was able to be a part of it.”

In her four years with JU, Williams was instrumental in building the program into an A-Sun power by assisting in recruiting while also working on the development of guards Virginia Gregoire, DaVina Hamilton and Regina Omoite. During that span, the Dolphins have set numerous team and individual records while also earning national recognition. Last season, the Dolphins finished with the best record in program history (23-9) while earning votes in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches Top 25 Poll and reaching the A-Sun Championship Game for the first time.

“This is a great opportunity for Andrea to coach in one of the top conferences in women’s basketball,” said JU head coach Jill Dunn. “Andrea helped turn our program around at JU and I appreciate all of the time and effort she put into making that possible. We wish her continued success and the best of luck."

Prior to JU, Williams served as an assistant coach with the U.S. Naval Academy (2002-04), the University of Tampa (1999-02) and was a head coach at Waynesburg (Pa.) College (1997-99). Williams began her collegiate coaching career at Edinboro University as an assistant in 1995-96.
