The JU women’s basketball team will not only continue its active stance in the fight against breast cancer in 2008 but they are increasing its efforts this year beginning with the annual “Lick a Lid” event on Tuesday and Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the JU cafeteria and Nellie’s on campus.

This will mark the fifth consecutive year in which the women’s basketball program has participated in the event and the Dolphins reached their goal of over 250 lids last season. For a dollar, participants can purchase a single cup of Yoplait yogurt and lick the lid to support research for breast cancer. For each lid that is licked, the Susan G. Komen Foundation will match 10 cents for the same donation.

“We are thrilled to once again support Pink Zone, the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association’s awareness initiative,” said JU women’s basketball head coach Jill Dunn. “The first thing we will be doing this year to support the cause will be hosting our annual ‘Lick-a-Lid’ event. We encourage everyone on campus to please come out and support us and the initiative to promote breast cancer awareness.”

The Dolphins, who begin practice for the 2008-09 season on Friday, will play their first exhibition contest on Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. against Flagler at newly renovated Swisher Gymnasium.
