Women’s basketball signees earn all-state honors
JU women’s basketball signees Abril Peeples (Americus, Ga.), Drameka Griggs (Jonesboro, Ga.) and Maggie Wilson (Lexington, Ky.) each received all-state honors to close out their high school careers prior to joining the Dolphins this fall.

Peeples (Americus Sumnter) and Griggs (Jonesboro) each earned first team all-state honors in Georgia, while Wilson earned all-state honorable mention playing at Lexington Catholic.

"We are extremely excited about the caliber of student athletes in this year's class,” said JU head coach Jill Dunn. “These all-state honors show that they have the potential to do something special in their next four years at JU. We are ready to get them on campus and involved in our program.”

Peeples, a 5-foot-7 senior guard, signed with the Dolphins in the fall after having led the Panthers to a combined 61-20 overall record including a 25-3 mark and a Sweet 16 appearance in the state playoffs as a junior. During that season, she averaged 15 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals. As a sophomore, she averaged 14 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals. As a freshman, she earned team “Rookie of the Year” honors after averaging 15 points, five assists, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals.

Griggs, a 5-foot-5 senior point guard, also signed with JU in the fall following four consecutive regional appearances with the Cardinals and the state playoffs in her final two seasons. Along with her court success, Griggs is a member of the National Honors Society and has been named to the honor roll all four years. In AAU play, she has been a member of the Big South team.

Wilson, a 5-foot-8 senior guard, was a three-year starter at Lexington Catholic where she tallied over 1,200 career points and was a two-year team captain. As a senior, she was named all-region after averaging 15 points and five rebounds while shooting 30 percent from beyond the arc. As a freshman, was added to the varsity roster which won the 2006 state championship. Among her teammates playing at the Division I level are Natalie Novosel (Notre Dame), Brianna Green (UTEP) and Nikki Davis (Virginia Tech).
