Freshman guard Drameka Griggs recorded a team-high 11 points and four steals to help lead the Dolphins (7-15, 6-8) to their second straight road win. Senior forward Crystal Grable added nine points, five boards, two steals and a block to help the cause.

The Dolphins used their defense to pick up another victory after limiting the Lady Bisons (4-21, 2-12) to a 28 percent shooting percentage and scoring 28 points off of 26 turnovers. JU, who holds its second straight team under the 50-point barrier, won the rebounding battle (51-34) and had a season-high 15 steals.

“Our defense carried us again,” said JU head coach Jill Dunn. “We set the tempo early by getting up a big lead and playing sound defense, which helped us throughout the game. Overall, I am very pleased with the way we played on this trip and look forward to carrying the momentum back home on Thursday.”

Hannah Phillips and Valerie Bronson each recorded eight points to lead the Lady Bisons in scoring.

Junior guard Gigi Thomas scored six points in the first seven minutes of the game to help JU race out to a 14-2 lead (13:40). The Lady Bisons got a three-pointer from Bronson, but the Dolphins pushed their advantage to 23-7 on a jumper by sophomore guard Ashanti Williams. Despite Lipscomb pulling within 10 in the final two minutes, sophomore guard Valerie Jones nailed a jumper at the top of the key to give JU a 33-21 lead at the half.

Thomas finished with eight points and a team-high three steals for JU. Senior center Danielle Gray recorded seven points, while Jones tallied six points and six boards.

The Dolphins opened the second half on a 9-3 run that was capped on a fast break layup by Griggs to take a 42-24 lead. Freshman guard Maggie Wilson gave the Dolphins a 21-point advantage (50-29) on a jumper in the corner at 12:37. Phillips capped a 10-2 run for the Lady Bisons on two free throws to make it a 52-39 deficit, but the Dolphins’ defense wouldn’t let Lipscomb get any closer to secure the victory.

Lipscomb got seven points from Morgan Faulkner, while Jenna Bartsokas and Chelsea Burroughs each finished with five points.

The Dolphins play at home on Thursday when they host league-leading Florida Gulf Coast at 5 p.m. in the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. The game also kicks off the annual Women’s basketball Coaches Association “Think Pink” week to help bring breast cancer awareness. The Dolphins are encouraging all fans to wear pink to help show your support in the fight against breast cancer.
