
Junior guard Gigi Thomas recorded a game-high 14 points to lead four Dolphins (9-18, 8-11 Atlantic Sun) in double figures, while freshman guard Drameka Griggs tallied 13 points, five assists, three blocks and two steals.
The Dolphins had 23 points off 12 Camels’ (14-14, 9-10) turnovers, while also shooting 69.2 percent from the free throw line (18-26) to get the win.
“This was a good quality win,” said JU head coach Jill Dunn. “Our team battled throughout the game and I’m happy to see them get a win for their effort. We will look forward to using this momentum for Saturday’s home finale.
Campbell shot a game-best 40.7 percent from the floor, while edging the Dolphins in paint (36-18) and bench points (35-18). Tonisha Baker had 12 points to lead the Camels.
In the second half, the Dolphins took a 49-42 lead (8:14) on a layup by sophomore guard Ashanti Williams, but the Camels used an 8-0 run over the next three minutes to take a one point advantage on layup by Lauren Yesh at 5:52. Freshman guard Maggie Wilson hit a three pointer the next trip up the floor before the Camels tied it at 52 on another layup by Yesh (4:06). Senior forward Desarae Johnosn nailed a jumper on the next possession for JU, while the defense held the Camels to just five points in the final four minutes to pull away with the win.
Johnson finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and three blocks for JU. Williams recorded 11 points off the bench and had three assists, while senior forward Crystal Grable pulled down 11 boards.
Trailing 25-21, Campbell ended the first half on an 8-2 run, with back-to-back 3-pointers by Kate Cloxton to take a 29-27 lead at halftime.
Cloxton and Yesh each finished with 10 points for the Camels to round out the double-digit scorers.
The Dolphins will wrap up the regular season with Senior Day, honoring the team’s four seniors, on Saturday against ETSU. Tipoff is set for Noon.
