Drameka Griggs earns A-Sun all-freshman team honors

Freshman guard Drameka Griggs was one of the bright spots for the JU women’s basketball team this season on the hardwood which has earned her Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshman team honors, which was announced today by the league office.

The Jonesboro, Ga. native finished the regular season ranking second in scoring (8.6 ppg) for JU, while recording team highs in assists (56) and steals (47). She has led the team in scoring eight teams, including double figures in eight of the last 10 games.

Griggs becomes the first Dolphin to earn the honor since Lexie Richards received all-freshman accolades in 2000-01.

“We are really happy for Drameka,” said JU head coach Jill Dunn. “Drameka has matured into a very good player this season. We are happy for her success and look forward to many more things like this in the future.”

Griggs made her way onto the all-freshman team by averaging 13.3 points per game, while recording team highs in assists (29) and steals (22) in the final 10 games of the season.

Despite nursing a sore ankle, Griggs opened the stretch with a season-high 23 points, three steals and two assists at UNF (1/27). She recorded eight points at USC Upstate (2/1) before leading the Dolphins with 12 points at Belmont (2/6). Griggs finished the four-game road trip with 11 points, four assists and four steals at Lipscomb (2/8).

Against Stetson (2/13), Griggs recorded 18 points on 6-of-11 attempts from the floor to go along with a season high two three pointers and four free throws. She also recorded three assists, while adding a block and a steal.

Griggs scored 19 points for the second time this season (vs. UCF, 12/2) in the home finale against ETSU on Feb. 27. She went 6-of-14 from the floor, while hitting a four free throw attempts and connecting on a three pointer.
