Women’s basketball visits Jacksonville Chapter of HOPE Worldwide
The JU women’s basketball team took a break from its busy preseason practice and class schedule to spend time at the Jacksonville Chapter of HOPE Worldwide.

The Dolphins visited the branch that hosts a Saturday Academy at the Magic Johnson Center/Hilltop Village apartments on the north side. The team spent time reading with the children, while also sharing skills to help with writing and math.

Senior guard GiGi Thomas spoke to the group on the importance of getting an education and focusing on not just sports but what your career will be after you finish playing. Senior guard Ashanti Williams was able to speak of having a dream and then taking steps to make your dream come true.

“HOPE Worldwide is a wonderful organization that is truly making the difference in the lives of children,” said JU head coach Jill Dunn. “We are thankful our players could be 14 first-hand examples of what focusing on education and having dreams can do.”

The Dolphins will host an exhibition game at Swisher Gymnasium against Tampa on Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. before kicking off the regular season at USF on Nov. 12.
