Women’s basketball announces 2011 promotional schedule
There will be more bang for your buck at the JU women’s basketball games in the New Year as the Dolphins announce the 2011 promotional schedule.

The Dolphins are taking advantage a grant awarded to each Atlantic Sun Conference school to help boost attendance and create new life-long fans at the women’s basketball level.

“The A-Sun has been fortunate to receive grant money from the NCAA for the promotion of women's basketball,” said JU marketing and special projects coordinator Brian Freshley. “We kicked off the year with a pre-game pep rally prior to our home opener. This was well received by the fans so we are excited about the upcoming events and giveaways we have planned after the first of the year."

The promotional schedule kicks off on Jan. 15 with the first 200 fans receiving a JU t-shirt to the NCAA “Pack the House” game vs. ETSU at the Veterans Memorial Arena at 1 p.m.

Kids under the age of 13 are admitted free for Youth Day, while the team is hosting a special pre-game basketball clinic and pizza party for all Girl Scouts at 11 a.m. Troops wishing to sign up for the clinic can email Brian Freshley at

Last season, the Dolphins won the NCAA “Pack the House” contest for the A-Sun by selling out the UNF game at Swisher Gymnasium and look to capture that honor once again.

On Feb. 3rd, all fans can enjoy the JU basketball doubleheader against Belmont at the arena for no charge presented by the game sponsor, SeaBest Seafood. Two days later, the first 200 fans at the JU women’s basketball game against Lipscomb in the arena will receive a free JU rally towel.

The Dolphins will take on cross-town rival UNF in another installment of the SunTrust River City Rumble on Tuesday, Feb. 8th in the arena and the first 200 fans will get pink JU basketball t-shirts to help celebrate breast cancer awareness month.

The marketing department also plans to have special giveaways to the final two games at the arena this season against Kennesaw (Feb. 18th) and Mercer (Feb. 20th).

The Dolphins will hit the court again on Friday when they play Wake Forest in Swisher Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
