Stetson races past JU in season finale, 69-51
Stetson used a hot start and never cooled off in taking home a 69-51 win over the JU women’s basketball team in the regular season finale for both teams on Saturday afternoon in Atlantic Sun Conference action at the Edmunds Center.

Tierra Brown led the Hatters (17-12, 13-7 A-Sun) with a game-high 22 points, connecting on four 3-pointers – with three coming in the first half.

Stetson finished the game hitting 45.1 percent from the floor, including seven 3-pointers, with three joining Brown in double figures.

“Stetson hit some shots early and we didn’t respond the way we needed to,” said JU head coach Jill Dunn. “We’re going to put this one behind us and get ready for the tournament next week.”

The Dolphins (13-16, 8-12 A-Sun) lost its second straight game on the road despite another double-double night from Taneskei Richardson. The senior forward led JU with 17 points and 14 rebounds.

JU cut a 13-point deficit to 11 in the first four minutes, but an 8-0 run by Stetson – with back-to-back 3-pointers by Brown and Sasha Sims pushed the lead to 19, 53-34, with 13:12 left in the game. From there, the Hatters cruised, with JU getting as close as 14 in the final minutes.

Natasha Graboski scored 13 points and had six rebounds for Stetson while Sims and Victoria McGowan added 10 points each.

Stetson blistered the nets in the first half, made 5-of-7 from behind the arc en route to hitting 58.3 percent from the floor, to take an 18-point lead at one point before going into the locker room up 41-28 at halftime.

JU got 15 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four steals from Crystal Bell off the bench.

The Dolphins return to court on Thursday in the first round of the General Shale Brick A-Sun Tournament against either Campbell or UNF at Noon.
