THE GAME

North Florida is searching for its first road win of the season and if the Jacksonville University women’s basketball team gets its way, the Ospreys will leave Veterans Memorial Arena still on the hunt. JU hosts the Ospreys in the River City Rumble on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 1 p.m.

The first 100 fans at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena will receive a free “Pluck the Birds” t-shirt.

JU leads the all-time series, 10-8, and the last meeting between the cross-town foes came down to wire with the Dolphins pulling away for the 57-55 victory in the final 20 seconds.

JU’S LAST OUTING: PERFECT 2-0 ATLANTIC SUN START

For the third year in a row, the Dolphins have performed perfectly in the opening weekend of conference action as victories over Kennesaw State and Mercer pushed the Fins to a perfect 2-0 Atlantic Sun start. Freshman guard Sherranda Reddick averaged 17.5 points to go alongside nine rebounds, four assists and two steals and earned A-Sun Newcomer of the Week for her performances.

Senior guard Stephanie Edwards recorded nine points in both conference games but it was her late basket at Mercer that was most memorable.  With ten seconds remaining in the game, Edwards sank a floater to seal JU’s 71-67 win over the Bears. She also contributed six boards, three assists and two steals in the contest.

THE OPPONENT

UNF (4-8) is the best in the conference at minimizing their opposition’s scoring. However, while the team leads the A-Sun in fewest points allowed with an average of 59.9 points, they are ranked last in points scored with an average of 54.7 points per game.

Junior guard Destinee Smith leads the Ospreys in scoring, assists, and steals with 11.2 PPG, 2.4 APG and 1.1 SPG.
