ATLANTIC SUN BROADCAST
It’s March so let the madness begin! Feels like just yesterday the Jacksonville University women’s basketball team was inviting the public to come to Swisher Gym for their season preview and now they close the 2013-14 regular season with a two game home stand before the Atlantic Sun Tournament begins.
These last games against Kennesaw State and Mercer are of the utmost importance because they determine JU’s fate in the tourney. Fighting for the 4th seed and a home quarterfinal game, the Dolphins ask for their sixth fan, the fans, to pack the house. The Fins meet KSU tomorrow, March 6 at 7 p.m.
JU’S LAST OUTING:
After a rough first half, the Dolphins reassembled in the second frame to give USC Upstate a run for its money.
The Spartans held their largest lead of the game, 49-37, at 13:01 and maintained a lead of at least seven points over the next minutes until a three by freshman guard Sherranda Reddick pulled the Dolphins to within four at 55-51 with 7:43 remaining.
The Spartans later increased their lead back to eight, but the Fins again managed to cut the score to 59-57 (3:57). Free-throws lifted the Spartans 64-57 and by that point the Dolphins had just one more minute to come back. They eventually fell by a score of 68-59.
Kennesaw State (6-21, 4-12) heads to town coming off of a 74-53 loss to Mercer. The squad averages 61.3 points per game but give up nearly 14 points more to their opponents. Junior guard Kristina Wells who scored her 1,000th career point against the Bears, leads the Owls in scoring (16.1 PPG), rebounds (6.8 RPG) and assists (3.1 APG).
Senior night against Mercer is scheduled for Saturday, March 8 at 1 p.m.
