JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - A-Sun Release

After finishing fifth in last seasons Atlantic Sun Conference Championships, the Dolphins' women's cross country team look to continue their run of improvement and were selected to finish fourth in the 2007 A-Sun Preseason Coaches Poll.

Belmont, which won the championship last season, was tabbed the preseason favorite with 143 points (11 first-place votes) while North Florida (one first-place vote) and Kennesaw State rounded out the top three. JU, Campbell, Lipscomb, Gardner-Webb, Mercer, ETSU, USC Upstate, Florida Gulf Coast and Stetson made up the rest of the poll, respectively.

"Our goal is to improve our team placing each year as we elevate our cross country program to the top of the ASUN," said Coach Ron Grigg. "We will rely on our returners Danielle Coyle, Alyssa Deal, and Tiffanie Saxton to provide leadership for our newcomers Anastasia Fokina, Janel Grooms, and Alison Ritter."

Deal was the Dolphins' top finisher at last season's A-Sun championship, finishing 11th with a time of 19:34, earning all-freshman team honors in the process.

JU will open its 2007 season hosting the JU Short Duals at the JU Golf Course on Friday, Aug. 31.
