Women's cross country competes in NCAA Regionals

The JU women's cross country team sent four runners to Gainesville, Fla. on Saturday to compete in the NCAA Regionals.

Freshman Anastasia Fokina finished 79th out of 144 runners and led the Dolphins with a time of 23:38.94 in the 6K event.

"Our goal for racing at Regionals this year was to give our young athletes a glimpse at a higher level of competition," said JU head coach Ron Grigg. "After our successful performance at the ASUN Championships, we consider this step one with an eye towards bigger and better things next season."

Sophomore Alyssa Deal was second among Dolphins' runners, finishing with a time of 25:05.87. Finishing shortly after Deal was sophomore Tiffanie Saxton, crossing the line at 25:23:08. Senior Danielle Coyle wrapped up her cross country career with a time of 25:57.43.

The Dolphins will begin the indoor track season on Jan. 18 at the Clemson Invitational in Clemson, S.C.
