Women’s cross county receives No. 9 ranking in USTFCCCA South region polls
After winning its first two meets, the JU women’s cross country team earned a No. 9 ranking in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association south region poll on Tuesday afternoon.

The Dolphins, who earned their first ranking since joining the Atlantic Sun in 1998, were ranked ahead of reigning conference champion Belmont, who was selected 11th.

“We are thankful for the early season ranking,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg. “There is a lot of running left to be done and the real racing begins this Saturday at Florida.”

The Dolphins opened the season battling temperatures of more than 90 degrees and a soggy terrain from Tropical Storm Fay to win the JU short course duals on Aug. 29. JU followed the performance by knocking off cross-town rival UNF, 10-to-11, a week later in the JU-UNF 2x1 relay on Sept. 6.

Junior Elsabeth Goshu took the top individual spot at the JU short course duals with a time of 12:48, while junior Alison Ritter had the second fastest average in the JU-UNF 2x1 relay with a time of 5:43.5.

The Dolphins are back in action on Saturday as they travel to Gainesville, Fla. for the Mountain Dew Invitational.
