Women’s cross country competes in Mountain Dew Invitational on Saturday
After a week off from racing, the JU women’s cross country team heads back to the course as they travel to Gainesville, Fla. for the Mountain Dew Invitational on Saturday morning.

“Tomorrow is the first real test,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg. “It will give us an indication of how our training has been received, and what we need to do in order to be ready for November racing.”

The Dolphins hit the course after receiving a No. 9 south region ranking by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Sept. 16. This is JU’s first ranking since joining the Atlantic Sun Conference in 1998 and was earned by winning its first two home meets.

The Dolphins opened the season battling temperatures of more than 90 degrees and a soggy terrain from Tropical Storm Fay to win the JU short course duals on Aug. 29. JU followed the performance by knocking off cross-town rival UNF, 10-to-11, a week later in the JU-UNF 2x1 relay on Sept. 6.

Junior Elsabeth Goshu took the top individual spot at the JU short course duals with a time of 12:48, while junior Alison Ritter had the second fastest average in the JU-UNF 2x1 relay with a time of 5:43.5.
