Women’s cross country earns USTFCCCA All-Academic team accolades
This year keeps getting better for the JU women’s cross country team as they earned US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic team accolades on Thursday afternoon.

The Dolphins take home the honor after posting a 3.323 grade point average to finalize their best season in program history during the fall.

"This award is recognition of the hard work and preparation the student-athletes put into their studies,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg. “It is yet another example of why we can all be proud of the women who participate in our program."

In 2008, the Dolphins won four out of five regular season meets this season and never finished below 10th in a race all season.

At the A-Sun Championships, the Dolphins nearly pulled off an upset over defending champion Belmont with a program-best second place finish behind all-conference efforts from sophomore Susanne Klungtveit (4th-18:14), junior Alyssa Deal (9th-18:29), junior Elsabeth Goshu (10th-18:29) and junior Ali Ritter (14th- 18:48). The four all-conference honors by JU were the most by any school during the meet. Klungtveit’s time (sixth) along with Deal’s (11th) and Goshu’s mark (12th) all made it on the school record list as well.

In the final meet of the season, the Dolphins ended with a program-best 10th place finish at the NCAA South Regional in Knoxville, Tenn. Klungtveit produced the school’s third-best 6K time with a 22:18 (37th) to lead the Dolphins. Goshu (22:21) tallied the program’s fourth-highest time behind Klungtveit, while Deal ran a 23:07 to rank seventh on the all-time list.
