Despite a sloppy course, three Dolphins had school-record times to help the JU women’s cross country team record a strong showing at the Indiana State Pre-Nationals in Terra Haute, Ind. on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Elsabeth Goshu made it on the all-time list for the second consecutive meet as she tied the second fastest 6k mark in school history with a time of 22:14.4 (109th) to pace the Dolphins. Junior Anastasia Fokina tallied the sixth fastest 6k time after running a 22:40.5 (150th), while freshman Joane Pierre also made her way onto the list with the eighth fastest mark at 23:07.5 (187th).

“I’m really pleased with the effort by all five runners today,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg. “The aggressiveness they showed early in the race will set them up well for the conference meet in two weeks.”

Junior Susanne Klungtveit was the Dolphins’ third highest finisher in the meet after running a time of 22:57.2 (172nd), while junior Kelli Midden ran a 24:28.4 (237th) to round out the rest of the JU runners.

As a team, the Dolphins finished 33rd in the white division running against nationally-ranked Washington, Princeton, Florida and Florida State.

Both JU cross country teams will be back in action on Oct. 31, when the Dolphins travel to DeLand, Fla. for the Atlantic Sun Championship.
