Women’s cross country ranked eighth in first USTFCCCA South Region Poll
The JU women’s cross country team’s first A-Sun title is still fresh on many people’s minds as the Dolphins were ranked eighth in the first U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association south region poll on Monday.

The Dolphins, who tied their highest ranking from last season, sit behind 2009 national runner up Florida State and six schools from the SEC. They also come in higher than conference and cross-town rival North Florida, who was ranked 10th.

“We are coming off our best cross country season ever in 2009,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg. “We return our core and add some exciting newcomers. Summer training appears to have gone well, now we will seek consistency and health as we build toward the important meets in mid to late October.”

JU was picked first in the recent A-Sun coaches poll after returning six runners from the 2009 squad that posted the program’s first conference championship and school-best ninth place finish at the NCAA South Regional.

The Dolphins will start the trail back to the A-Sun Championships on Friday with the JU Short Course Duals at 6 p.m. on the old Dolphins’ golf course.
