The JU women’s cross country team looks for another solid performance on Friday as they compete in the Invitational in Titusville, Fla.

The Dolphins will race for the first time since Sept. 18 when they produced a second place finish at the UF Mountain Dew Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.

“This is a meet where we can experiment a little,” said JU head coach Ron Grigg. “We will look to run as a pack and keep five or more together as long as possible. I am confident in our up-front talent, and we will work to help our other scorers become confident too as we look ahead to Pre-Nationals in two more weeks.”

Last time out, sophomore Joane Pierre paced the Dolphins by winning the individual portion of the UF Mountain Dew Invitational with a 5K school record time of 17:33.50. The victory also helped her earn A-Sun “Runner of the Week” honors on Sept. 22.

Senior Susanne Klungtveit was the Dolphins’ next highest finisher after placing 13th with a time of 18:20.85. Freshman Svenja Meyer recorded a time of 18:36.46 to place 21st, while senior Anastasia Fokina ran a time of 18:58.38 (32nd).

Junior Baliee Hedstrom (19:07.24), sophomore Morgan Keel (19:41.05) and sophomore Amalia Vogler (19:51.72) rounded out the rest of the Dolphin runners on the day.

After their second place finish in Gainesville, the Dolphins jumped to sixth in the USTFCCCA South Region polls on Sept. 20 – the highest ranking in program history.

Last season, the Dolphins won the Invitational after having five JU runners finish in the top five spots.

Fokina finished behind former JU runner Elsa Goshu in second place with a time of 18:16.87. Klungtveit ran a time of 18:17.49 to place third, while Pierre took fourth place (18:30.56) and Ali Ritter was fifth (18:32.69).
