Led by freshman Alexandra Andersen's one-over par round of 73, the Jacksonville women's golf team opened its spring season in eighth place after the first round of the UCF Invitational on the par-72 Stoneybrook Golf Club.

The Dolphins shot 310 as a team to sit 16 shots back of leader Rollins College, which fired a 294 to take a six-shot lead over Florida International.

"Alexandra played really well today," said JU head coach Jim Taketa. "She got off to a good start and hopefully she can keep the momentum going into tomorrow's round."

Andersen sits just two shots out of the lead, with four players tied at one-under par 71. Rollins' Mariana DeBiase, FIU's Susan Nam, Texas Tech's Marla Troester and Mercer's Ashley Harris all carded a 71, setting up a shootout for the individual title.

To open her round, Anderson shot a one-under par 35 before giving some shots away on the back nine with a 38.

Jessica Green and Heather Fudge stepped up for the Dolphins as well, as both fired rounds of 77, going out in 39 and coming in an 38, to finish in a tie for 22nd.

After a solid fall campaign, Camilla Loeveid struggled in her first spring event shooting an 83. Therese Karlsson is tied for 70th after an 87.

The Dolphins will tee it up again on Tuesday in the final round of the tournament.
