March 20, 2006

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville women's golf team continues to pick up momentum in the stretch of the 2006 season as the Dolphins rallied from a three-stroke deficit to top Butler in the North-South Intercollegiate at the par 72 Jacksonville Beach Golf Club.

The Dolphins opened the tournament with a round of 313 to sit in third place, just three shots back of Butler. JU fired a 308 in the final round to pass Tennessee Tech and Butler to claim the title.

"I'm really proud of the team and how they responded today," said JU head coach Jim Taketa. "With a young team, we are making progress each tournament as they gain more experience. Learning how to come from behind and win tournaments like this will help us down the road."

Alexandra Andersen led the Dolphins as she finished in fourth place with rounds of 79 and 75 to finish at 10-over par, just five shots behind medalist Stephanie Hicks of Longwood.

Andersen led a trio of Dolphins to finish in the top 10. Therese Karlsson finished in a tie for fifth at 11-over par with rounds of 79 and 76. Jessica Green opened the tournament with a 74, but fell back with an 82 in the second round to tie for seventh at 12-over par.

Camilla Loeveid finished in a tie for 20th with rounds of 87 and 75 to finish at 18-over par. Heather Fudge tied for 22nd after firing an 81 and 82 to finish at 19-over par.

The Dolphins are back in action again at the Ryder State Championships in Miami on April 1.
