Women's golf set for A-Sun Championship

April 9, 2006

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - With one of the best spring seasons in recent years, the Jacksonville women's golf team wrapped its preparations on Sunday for the Atlantic Sun Conference at the DeBary Golf and Country Club.

The Dolphins won two tournaments during the spring and has seen a very young team mature over the past four months. The winner of the A-Sun Championship receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.

"The team has been working hard all spring for this event," said JU head coach Jim Taketa. "We're a young team and we continue to improve each time out."

With the youth movement in full swing, it has been a junior that has led the Dolphins. Camilla Loeveid has stepped into the starting lineup and been a leader, leading JU with an 80.5 stroke average.

"As the team's MVP, Camilla has led the Dolphins to two tournament victories this past spring," Taketa said. "She has struggled in her last few rounds due to some swing changes but her experience should lend itself to bring her game to the level that she is capable of at the Championship."

The Dolphins tee off at 7:44 a.m. with Lipscomb and East Tennessee State.
