Dolphins finish 12th at DeBary Invitational

Heather Fudge fired a career-best two-over par round of 74 to jump into a tie for 19th as the JU women's golf team finished in 12th place at the DeBary Invitational on the par 72 DeBary Country Club.

Fudge opened the tournament with an eight-over par 80 on Sunday but closed strong with her 74, finishing at 10-over par.

"Heather played really well today and made a huge jump in the standings," said JU assistant coach Pamela Shelley. "This was a good finish for us against some very good competition."

Minnesota won the 14-team event with a two-round total of 603, holding off Mercer by one shot. Stetson's Danielle Jackson won the individual title after carding a four-under par 68 to finish at three-under par, 141.

Fudge had the low round of the day for the Dolphins, who dropped a place in the standings with a 328 total in the final round to finish at 653.

Therese Karlsson followed up her opening round 79 with an 80 to tie for 36th at 159. Camilla Loeveid tied for 51st with an 83 in the final round to finish with a two-round total of 165. Vicki Nektheden closed with a 91 to finish in 66th at 175.

The Dolphins wrap up their fall season on Nov. 6 at the Stetson Fall Invitational.
