Women's golf takes ninth in season opening event

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Senior Heather Fudge and junior Therese Karlsson posted rounds of five-over par 77 as the JU women's golf team finished ninth in the season opening Lady Falcons Invitational on the par-72 LPGA International Champions Golf Course.

Fudge finished the event tied for 14th at nine-over par, 153, while Karlsson tied for 24th at 13-over par, 157.

"Heather had a really good start today and Therese put together a really strong round," said JU head coach Jim Taketa. "This tournament gives us an idea of where we are and the work we need to do to get where we want to go."

Barry University won the team competition by a shot over Nova Southeastern, finishing with a two-round total of 597. Lynn University's Maha Haddioui won the individual competition by carding a one-over par 73 to finish the tournament at one-over par, 145.

The Dolphins finished the 36-hole event with a total of 633.

Freshman Jessica Williams had a strong first collegiate tournament, tying for 31st after her second straight 79. Jessica Green finished in a tie for 50th after shooting an 82 to end the event at 163.

Alexandra Anderson carded an 83 to finish in 54th at 167.

The Dolphins are back in action again next weekend at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate in Waynesville, N.C.
