Women's golf takes ninth at Great Smokies Intercollegiate

WAYNESVILLE, N.C. - After a rocky opening round, the Jacksonville women's golf team rallied with an impressive final round to finish ninth at the Great Smokies Intercollegiate.
Junior Therese Karlsson carded a career-best one-under par 71 in the final round as the Dolphins improved by 22 shots in the final round.
JU opened the tournament with a 319 and shot a season-best 297 in the second round to finish with a 36-hole total of 616.
Chattanooga won the 24-team event with a two-round total of 591 while Elin Andersson of South Alabama won the individual competition at three-under par, 141.
Heather Fudge and Danielle Gibb had the best finish individually for JU - tying for 23rd. Fudge, a senior, carded rounds of 79 and 73 while Gibb, a freshman playing in her first collegiate event, had back-to-back 76s.
Karlsson's 71 was a stark contrast to the opening round 85 she shot, tying her for 44th at 12-over par, 156.
Alexandra Andersen had rounds of 79 and 78 to finish in a tie for 49th at 157 with Jessica Williams tying for 76th after rounds of 85 and 77.
The Dolphins are back in action on Oct. 28 at the Winthrop Invitational.
