Morgan Jackson fires a 71 to lead JU at Xavier Intercollegiate
Morgan Jackson recorded one of the top five rounds in JU women’s golf history to claim a tie for 15th at the Xavier Intercollegiate.

Jackson shot a one-under par 71 in the final round, jumping 23 spots for her second straight top 20 finish. The one-under par round is the best by a Dolphin this season and tops Jackson’s career-low 72, which she tied last week at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate.

As a team, JU finished in 14th place in the 14-team event despite shooting a 22-over par 310 in the final round. The Dolphins finished the 54-hole event with a total of 977. Daytona State won the event at 894, 30-over par, led by individual champion Mitsuki Katahira, who finished at six-under par.

“We’re all really proud of Morgan and how well she played today,” said JU assistant coach Jen Poth. “She’s been close to breaking par this year and she put everything together today.

“As a team, we’re disappointed with how we finished. Everyone knows they could have played much better. We’re going to back to work this week and really hit the range hard to correct our mistakes.”

Jackson’s 71 was tied for the low round of the day and allowed her to tie for 15th at 15-over par, the best individual finish for JU.

Kristen Boettcher tied for 63rd after shooting an 85 in the final round to finish at 30-over par, 246.

Meghan Hughes, Jessica Williams and Melissa Magdor each had their best round of the tournament in the final round. Hughes carded a six-over par 78 to tie for 69th at 253. Williams shot a seven-over par 79 to tie for 71st at 254 while Magdor shot an 82 to finish in 73rd at 255.

The Dolphins will wrap up their fall season with the Lady Paladin Invitational on Oct. 30.
