Mercer wins Courtyard Classic over JU
Aurelie Wiriath’s tournament record tying round of three-under par 69 led Mercer to the team title at the 2012 Courtyard Classic at Hidden Hills Country Club.

Wiriath’s performance led Mercer to a 13-over par, 301, and a 17-shot victory over host Jacksonville. Wiriath’s round was good enough for second place, finishing two shots back of teammate Lacey Fears, who shot a four-over par 76 to win individual honors at six-over par, 220.

JU was led by Francesca Yong’s seventh place finish as the Dolphins had five scores in the 70s for the second time in the three rounds of the tournament.

“This was a good start to our season,” said JU head coach Ashley Prange. “This shows the girls what they have to work on for the rest of the year and is a good gauge of where we are.”

Natalie Schmett tied for eighth at 15-over par, 231, after shooting a six-over par, 78, in the final round. Gaia Olcese carded a 78 as well to take home 11th place at 17-over par. Jessica Welch had the best round of the day for JU, posting a two-over par 74, to finish 12th at 18-over par.

Morgan Jackson shot a six-over par 78 as well, tying for 17th at 23-over par, 239. Playing as individuals, Allison Cornell shot an 84 to finish 29th and Carlie Gehlhausen shot an 87 to finish in a tie for 23rd.

The Dolphins are off until the end of the month when they travel to play in the South Alabama Invitational.
