Stetson wins the Marsh Landing Intercollegiate

Led by Alex Buelow’s individual title, the Stetson women’s golf team won the 2012 Marsh Landing Intercollegiate.


Stetson won the team title by shooting a 312 in the final round to finish at 894 for the event, topping Cal Poly by 13 shots.  Buelow posted a one-over par total of 217, topping Jenna Birch of Armstrong Atlantic by two shots.


Jacksonville came in fourth place by carding a 27-over par, 315, in the final round to finish at 922.  Jessica Welch had the best finish for the Dolphins, carding a six-over par, 78, to tie for sixth at 11-over par.


“The golf course was in great shape and you have to take your hat off to Stetson.  They played extremely well all week,” said JU head coach Ashley Prange.  “We struggled a little bit today and now can focus on some small things we need to work on between now and the conference tournament.”


Natalie Schmett tied for eighth for JU, carding the best round of the day for the Dolphins by shooting a five-over par 77 to end the event at 12-over par.


Carlie Gehlahausen tied for 29th after shooting a 10-over par, 82, to finish at 20-over par, 236.  Morgan Jackson shot a 12-over par 84 and finished in 32nd at 21-over par.  Francesca Yong shot a six-over par, 78, and tied for 35th at 23-over par.


The Dolphins return to the links on Monday when they participate in the first round of the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship at the Venetian Bay Golf Club.
