Women’s Golf in 7th After Shortened First Round of Pinehurst Challenge

PINEHURST, N.C. – Though darkness prevented all of the 14 teams in the Pinehurst Challenge from completing the first round, the Jacksonville University women’s golf team were among the teams to finish and the Dolphins find themselves in seventh place after 18 holes. Despite having some ground to make up, Jacksonville is only six strokes behind High Point in third place.

Jessica Welch was the top finisher for the Dolphins on the afternoon, registering a six-over round of 78. Natalie Schmett and Morgan Matchett had the second-best rounds for JU with matching 79s. Megan Collins had her best collegiate round to date with an 80, followed by an 84 from Sabrina Rumbaugh.

After the completion of the first round for all the competing teams, the goal is to finish the remaining 36 holes in the tournament tomorrow. A shotgun start is set for 8 a.m.
