JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Now that April has arrived, the season kicks into high gear for the Jacksonville University women’s golf team. The Atlantic Sun Championship is less than two weeks away, but before that, the Dolphins welcome in a field of 19 teams to the Intercollegiate at Marsh Landing Country Club on April 7 and 8. Of the 19 teams competing at the 54-hole event, 13 are among the top 100 teams in the most recent Golfstat rankings. A shotgun start will commence each day of the tournament at 8:30 a.m.

Coming off the team’s win – the first in seven years – at the Cincinnati Spring Invitational, Jacksonville should carry a good amount of confidence into the tournament as the same five of Jessica Welch, Natalie Schmett, Sabrina Rumbaugh, Morgan Matchett and Megan Collins carry the JU banner into this week’s event.

Quickly becoming one of the premier events on the spring women’s golf calendar, this year’s Intercollegiate features Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota and Ohio State from the Big Ten, Florida State and Maryland out of the ACC, Cincinnati, Louisville and UCF out of the American and Missouri from the Big 12.

“This is a great event for our program with a really good field,” commented Head Coach Jen Borocz. “It's nice to be able to play on our home turf the week before the A-Sun Championship. We have a lot of momentum from our win at Cincinnati and the team is showing more consistency. Winning is on their mind.”

Jacksonville will serve as host of the 2014 Atlantic Sun Championship, which will be held from April 14-16 on Jekyll Island along the Georgia coast. Pine Lakes Golf Course will be the site of the Championship for the second year running as the 10 A-Sun schools converge and send the champion into the NCAA Regionals.
