The JU women’s lacrosse team will face Long Island tomorrow evening in search of their third win of the season at 7 p.m. at the Ashley Sports Complex.

The Dolphins (2-6, 1-0 NLC) are in the fifth game of their seven-game homestand before playing the final five games of the season on the road.

“We’re excited for this week,” said JU head coach Mindy McCord. “It’s going to be nice to have two more games at home before we head into the challenging end to our season.”

In a 12-4 loss to Vermont last week, four Dolphins recorded goals on the day but the best performance for the home side came from freshman Hannah Collins in her first start in goal. Collins recorded a season-high 15 saves while allowing 12 goals.

Long Island (1-4) is coming off a 19-9 victory over NLC member Liberty over the weekend. Junior Jenna Schauder tallied five goals to help the Blackbirds down Liberty. The Blackbirds jumped out to a four-goal lead and never looked back.

Fans should be sure to get to the game early as JU will present its honorary captain, Rebecca Ray.

Just over one year ago, Ray was diagnosed with brain cancer, the second most common cancer in children. Rebecca will be finished with her treatment and, thanks to Dreams Come True, a non-profit organization, will be heading on a vacation to Alaska.
