The JU women’s lacrosse team will battle Liberty in the first round of the NLC Tournament tomorrow in Farmville, Va.
The No. 3 Dolphins (6-10, 4-2 NLC) are three wins from a conference title and will face the No. 6 seeded Flames (1-11, 1-5) at 1 p.m.
“We’ve been very focused all week,” said JU head coach Mindy McCord. “This is a new experience for all of our players and I’m excited to see how we respond.”
In their last meeting, the Dolphins doused the Flames, 19-2, at a neutral site game in Jacksonville, Fla.
The JU outscored Liberty 16-1 in the first half, outshooting the opposition, 25-3, including scoring nine straight goals.
Freshman Emily Pepe turned in an outstanding performance for JU, tallying six points (3,3) while Jocelyn Jameson added a hat trick of her own. Goalie’s Hannah Collins and Karli Tobin split time in goal, each conceding a goal while making two saves.
Before the opening draw takes place between Liberty and JU, the tournament kicks off with a matchup between No. 2 Davidson (7-8, 5-1 NLC) and No. 7 Howard (2-12, 0-6 NLC). Following the Dolphins' contest, Friday’s action concludes with a game between No. 4 Detroit (6-10, 3-3 NLC) and No. 5 Presbyterian (3-12, 2-4 NLC) at 4 p.m.
In Saturday’s second round, JU will take on either Davidson or Howard depending on the outcome of Friday’s first two contests.
