JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- The Jacksonville University women’s lacrosse team will face an unfamiliar opponent on Saturday, Feb. 15 as they host Colorado at D.B. Milne on Saturday, Feb. 15. The contest is slated to happen at noon.
All youth players attending Saturday’s game will receive a schedule poster and autographs from their favorite Fins following the game.
JU is looking to claim its first win of the season after falling 21-7 to No. 4 Florida last Wednesday. The Florida contest marked the second consecutive top-five opponent for JU as they opened the season against Syracuse. Sophomore midfielder Kelsey Wiglesworth leads the Fins with four goals while eight others have one. Defensively, senior attacker Britt Orashen directs the Dolphins with five groundballs, four draw controls and four caused turnovers.
Added in February of 2012, Colorado made its Division I debut on Thursday with a 12-4 victory over Stetson. Attacker Cali Castagnola led the Buffs with four goals off five shots while midfielder Johnna Fusco was the top point-getter, with six points off three goals and three assists.
“We are excited to play Colorado,” said Head Coach Mindy McCord. “Their school has committed to being a topnotch BCS program. They have some very good players and I believe their goalkeeper is one of the best we will see this year.”
The contest against Colorado marks the first of five consecutive home games for Jacksonville. Following action against the Buffaloes, JU will play James Madison on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 11 a.m.
