JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Jacksonville University women’s lacrosse didn’t let Old Dominion’s early lead spoil their game, as the Fins charged back for a 20-11 victory on Saturday to improve to 2-0 all-time against the Lady Monarchs and jump to 2-3 overall on the season.

Old Dominion bolted to a 3-0 lead in the first five minutes of the opening half before Ali Brennan put the Fins on the board at 25:07 with Taylor McCord on the assist. After ODU’s Megan Topper answered with their fourth goal less than one minute later, Jacksonville tallied six straight to lead 7-4 and eventually stand just shy of a double-lead at 11-6 at the half.

The Fins kept running with momentum to start the second half as Brennan and Hannah Wilcox scored back-to-back goals at 27:01 and 26:45, respectively, to put JU further ahead at 13-6. Wilcox’s goal was tallied on a free position shot. ODU then decreased Jacksonville’s lead to 13-9 with two goals by Jessica Liberty and one at the stick of Christina Rea on a free position shot. Jacksonville then put five in the back of the net behind the work of Holly Ventimiglia, Worcester and Derner, who scored three consecutive goals. ODU’s Liberty and Morgan Gallagher rallied with two, but ultimately Jacksonville added
their 19th and 20th goals from McCord and Purdy for their 20-11 victory.

Morgan Derner led Jacksonville with six goals and two assists, followed by Worcester and Brennan with three, McCord, Hoffman and Purdy with two, and Ventimiglia and Wilcox with one. McCord led with three assists.

In net, Asia Moore earned her second win of the season, saving four and allowing six, while Mariah Cudlipp came in for relief, allowing five and saving two.

Next, Jacksonville will host Michigan on March 5 at 7:00 p.m. at Southern Oak Stadium.
