NASHVILLE, TENN.- The Jacksonville University women’s lacrosse team will hit the road for the last time of the regular season on Wednesday, April 16. In a brief pause from Atlantic Sun play, the Fins travel to Nashville where they will see Vanderbilt at 3:30 p.m.
In three previous meetings with each game flip-flopping between the two cities, the Commodores are 2-1 in the all-time series. Lately, momentum seems to have swung in favor of the Fins as they beat VU 15-7 last season.
JU’S LAST OUTING:
In another dominating performance, the Dolphins downed Stetson by a score of 24-8. JU wasted no time getting off shots to start the contest, scoring just a minute and 15 seconds after the initial draw control.
Taylor McCord and Brittney Orashen each recorded hat tricks, and Sally Holbert added a pair of goals. All three players ended with four points in the game.
200 CAREER POINTS AND A-SUN PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
An unassisted goal with less than three minutes remaining provided the Dolphins with a 15-7 lead over Stetson last Saturday and earned Morgan Derner her 200th career point. Accomplishing a feat such as that made it easy for the Atlantic Sun to award the attacker her season’s second Player of the Week honor.
Not only did Derner score six goals and assisted on two others, she also became the first player in program history to reach the 200 milestone. In 64 games played, Derner currently sits at 203 points with 166 goals and 37 assists.
Vanderbilt heads into Wednesday with a record of 4-10 overall and most recently fell in three straight games to No. 17 Ohio State, No. 5 Northwestern and No. 4 Florida. Vandy averages 10.93 goals per game and Abby Weeler and Chandler Kelly drive the offense with 30 and 26 goals, respectively. Maddie Kratz sees the most action between the pipes and is giving up 13.73 goals a game.
The Dolphins return home on Friday, April 25 to face Howard and will have a short turnaround before closing out the regular season on Sunday, April 26 against Elon.
