On a pristine morning along the shores of the St. John’s River, the JU rowing program hosted its annual Alumni Race to an enthusiastic crowd - which was also on hand to witness the latest boat dedication in the Dolphin fleet.

After two races involving two Men’s Varsity 8 and a Men’s Novice 8 boat against two Alumni 8’s and the Women’s Varsity 8 versus an Alumni 8, JU dedicated its latest boat – “Tiger” Tim Tyler – in honor of the first coach in Dolphin rowing history.

To help celebrate the event, members of the original crew and other athletes who rowed under Coach Tyler were on hand to speak of their time at JU and the impact he made on their lives. Tommy Entenza, Todd Watt, Art Lloyd, Ron Poppell, Jim Rosenberger, Conrad Gunti, Ben James, Ron Tilton and John Carroway were all present to honor their former coach along with Brad Negaard and JU director of rowing Jim Mitchell.

JU will kick off the 2010 fall season at the Head of the Hooch on Nov. 6 in Chattanooga, Tenn.
