Women’s rowing places at SIRA Regatta
For the second straight week, the JU women’s rowing team helped JU finish well at an event as the Dolphins placed second in the overall team standings at the Southeast Intercollegiate Rowing Association (SIRA) Regatta on Saturday and Sunday in Oak Ridge, Tenn.

“It was another round of good racing,” said JU women’s head coach Kris Muhl. “The team, as a whole, is developing nicely with good leadership from the seniors. It will be exciting to see just how far the team can go this year and how much they can develop themselves and not let up until their final race.”

The Varsity 8 made up of coxswain Jamie Goldstein, Danielle Fournier, Allison Sobiech, Whitney Mathews, Jill Carmody, Abby Sierigk, Emily Close, Mary Mosier and Joanna Zachowski did not get a chance for its lanes placement race on Saturday due to weather conditions. In the Event Final, the squad placed fifth with a mark of 7:05.78 behind Alabama (6:47.00), Tulsa (6:49.17), Kansas State (6:49.53) and Purdue (7:04.58) but ahead of Southern Methodist (7:19.68).

The Novice 8 with coxswain Jordan Heylock, Maycee Dioneda, Abigail Bristlin, Marina Pelemis, Jordyn Clary, Tiffany Malloy, Rebecca Clark, Mary Meyers and Kelsey Clark placed fourth in its initial heat with a time of 7:07.70 behind Tennessee (6:45.50), Kansas State (6:57.22) and Alabama “B” (7:05.05). In the “B” Final, the squad finished with a mark of 7:33.50 ahead of Alabama (scratch).

The Dolphin women will next face UCF and Miami in Orlando on April 30 for their final tune up for Dad Vails.
