FELLSMERE, Fla. – Racing in their final fall regatta, the Jacksonville University women’s rowing program had another great outing at the FIRA Fall Classic on Saturday at Canal 54. The Novice 8 was the lone crew to finish in a top spot as they held a 52 second advantage over second place University of Florida.
“I thought we rowed pretty well today considering the strong headwind we raced into,” said Head Coach Jim Mitchell. “All of our boats were prepared for the tough conditions and made the necessary technical improvements to handle it.”
In the Varsity 4+ race, JU’s A Boat finished eight seconds behind the first place crew to place third.
The Varsity 8 crews crossed the finish line with times of 13:25 and 15:09 to finish third and seventh, respectively.
A couple of seconds shy of snatching their third first place finish, the Freshmen 4 crew placed second in their heat with a time of 15:34.
“Overall, we had a pretty decent and fun fall season with a few boats showing good results,” continued Mitchell. “Now, we need to make sure we keep the training momentum throughout the winter if we expect to do big things this spring.”
