Dolphins Close Out Regular Season With Third Straight Victory

October 30, 1999

Macon, Ga. - Jacksonville (10-7, 7-2) scored four goals in the first half and held on for a 4-3 Trans America Athletic Conference victory over Mercer (3-12-1, 1-7-1) on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Dolphins earned the number three seed in next weekend's TAAC Tournament while closing out the regular season on a three game winning streak.

Junior Stine Kloster got the Dolphins on the board first at 31:24 when she converted a pass from classmate Marit Foss. Freshman Brooke Ade added to the Dolphin lead less than two minutes later when she scored her second goal in two games at 33:10 on an assist from senior Sara Robertson. Sophomore Yvonna Rowinski made it three goals for three different players at the 36:30 mark when she scored off an assisting combination of classmate Trine Riis Groven and Foss. The first half fireworks for the Dolphins concluded when Foss slammed home a penalty kick at 44:28.

The Dolphins outshot the Bears 29-8 in the game, but a dangerous Mercer attack made things interesting with three goals in a 10 minute span of the second half, the Bears final goal coming at the 82:22 mark. However, JU held their composure over the final seven minutes of the game to preserve the victory. Freshman goalkeeper Kristen Kirsch made three saves for the Dolphins while her counterpart Genevieve Reid made 11 saves for the Bears.

JU now awaits the outcome of other weekend TAAC matches that will determine their first round opponent in the TAAC Tournament to be held in Orlando, Fla. November 4th-6th. The top two seeds (UCF and Georgia State) will receive first round byes into Friday's semifinals.
