Jacksonville, Fla. - Jacksonville University led all TAAC schools by placing six players on the 1999 Men's and Women's All-Conference first teams. Sophomore Bole Acimovic, senior Mladen Dikic and juniors Mike Popovic and goalkeeper Petar Popovic were selected by TAAC Coaches to the men's first team, while juniors Marit Foss and Stine Kloster were selected to the women's first team. Acimovic, Foss and Kloster were selected to their respective first teams for the second straight year.
In addition to the Dolphins' six first team selections, junior Dragan Rajcetic was named to the men's and sophomore Trine Riis Groven to the women's second teams. Senior Tony Powell rounded out the Dolphins' TAAC postseason honorees by receiving an honorable mention.
JU's first team combination of Acimovic and Mike Popovic was one of the most efficient scoring duos in the TAAC in 1999. Acimovic led the conference in goals with 17, while Popovic led the league in assists with 15. Meanwhile, Dikic finished fourth in goals and points with 13 and 30 respectively. On the women's side, Foss (29) and Kloster (25) finished the regular season second and third respectively in the TAAC in total points. Riis Groven (18) rounded out the women's scoring trio by finishing 13th in total points
Both Dolphin teams will take the field this weekend in their respective TAAC Tournaments. As the number one seed on the men's side, TAAC Tournament host JU will face the winner of a quarterfinal match between Georgia State and FAU on Friday afternoon at 2:00 P.M. Meanwhile, the women enter their tournament in Orlando, Fla. as the number three seed. The Dolphin women will face sixth seeded Stetson in a match on Thursday at 1:30 P.M., the winner advancing to face number two seed Georgia State in a Friday semifinal. The TAAC women's final can be seen live on the Sunshine Network Saturday afternoon at 1:00 P.M.
