Women's Soccer Hosts Nike Legends Classic

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Jacksonville University women's soccer team will host Howard, South Alabama and Florida Atlantic in the 2000 JU/Nike Legends Classic beginning Friday, Sept. 8, at the Ashley Sports Complex.

South Alabama (3-1) faces Florida Atlantic (2-1) at 2 p.m. in the first match of the game, followed by the Dolphins (3-1) taking on Howard (2-1) at 4 p.m.

The Dolphins enter the tournament on a high note after winning won the UCF/Kappa Invitational last weekend, defeating Alabama A&M, 10-0, and Florida International, 3-2. Senior forward Marit Foss (Skien, Norway) earned offensive MVP honors after tying an NCAA record with a career-high six assists in the match versus Alabama A&M. She broke her own school record of three set on Oct. 14, 1998 versus Flagler. The team also set records in shots (33), goals (10) and team assists (10). Foss finished the weekend with eight assists and a goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Kristen Kirsch (Green Bay, Wisc.) has a 2-0 record with 1.5 shutouts on the season in 135 minutes in goal.

After a break on Saturday, the tournament continues with the Dolphins facing South Alabama on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 2 p.m., following the Howard/Florida Atlantic match at 12 noon.
