Nov. 8, 2000

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Jacksonville University goalkeeper Melissa Cancio (Hialeah, Fla.) recorded a career-high nine saves, but it wasn't enough to overcome four second-half goals and 20 shots from 20th-ranked Florida State as the Lady Seminoles defeated JU, 4-1, in an NCAA First-Round tournament game Wednesday night at the FSU Soccer Complex.

The Dolphins finish the season 19-3, including a perfect 9-0 mark in conference play. JU also captured both the TAAC regular-season and tournament championships and won a school-record 16 consecutive games while advancing to its first NCAA Tournament.

The Lady Seminoles opened the scoring in the second half at the 49:20 mark when Amber Tollefson pushed in a pass from April Murphy and Emma Breland. Breland added her own goal five minutes later to put FSU up 2-0. Kristin Boyce added the Lady Seminoles' third goal at 71:20 in the match, but JU freshman Erika Chapman (Bradenton, Fla.) answered 22 seconds later to put the Dolphins on the board and avoid the shutout. The Lady Seminoles added the final punch with less than eight minutes remaining on a Cindy Shofield goal as Breland earned her second assist of the night.

FSU advances to play Florida Sunday in Gainesville.
